Think about a food your family makes again and again.

Maybe somebody taught your parents how to make it.

And maybe one day, they will teach you.

That is part of what people in Belize are working to protect.

Communities are helping record traditional foods, cooking methods, stories, and customs so that younger generations can learn about them in the future.

They are not only writing down recipes.

They are also recording things like how food is prepared, when certain dishes are eaten, where ingredients come from, and why those foods are important to people.

These traditions are sometimes called living heritage because people are still practicing them today.

Food can tell us a lot about where people come from and what matters to their families.

And by saving those traditions, Belize is helping make sure important pieces of its culture stay alive.

Talk about it
